Host Family Program
The Dodge City A's would not be possible with out our Host Family Program with so many awesome families generously opening their homes to our players for the summer. This program is headed up by Wendy Barnett and Brittany Rohr who do an awesome job of matching players with their hosts. The relationship developed between players and their host families is a very special one and has repeatedly led to life-long friendships being created.
What does it mean to be a Host Family for the Dodge City A's?
The goal of our host family program is to help players quickly adjust to moving to a new area, assist them as they get acquainted with the community, and provide a safe, stable and welcoming living environment. In the past, our host families have enjoyed the bond made between their family and their A’s player. The bond brings a positive impact for everyone and can last for years!
Benefits and Rewards for Host Families
Most players will arrive in Dodge City over Memorial Day weekend. The season is roughly 8 weeks, starting around May 30 and ending around July 20. The season could however be extended about two weeks if the team qualifies for the NBC World Series in Wichita.
During that time, host families should provide:
Outside of the necessities listed above, host families are not required to financially support their player or provide them a vehicle to use for the season. You can always choose to lend a vehicle for your player to use but it is entirely at your discretion. Players can always make transportation arrangements with their teammates.
We simply ask that you provide a welcoming family environment for our players as their summer guardians and mentors. Players are quickly thrown into a new city where they have just briefly met their teammates and coaches so providing a stable environment that is more than just housing is crucial to the success of our program.
We thank each and every host family, past and present, that has helped our players along the way as they pursue their baseball dreams.
